Dean Hall, the man behind RocketWerks Studio and their famous multiplayer survival horror mod-turned-game DayZ, has (albeit rather vaguely) announced a new multiplayer game. In an exclusive interview with Eurogamer, some very minor details were given on the game.
“What I will say is it’s multiplayer,” he told the interviewer. “We’re really drawing a line in the sand here and saying … that’s where we want to be planting our flag in the ground; carving out new territory in terms of new multiplayer genres, or re-purposing different parts of other genres.”
He adds, “I believe it’s a gap in the market. For that reason I’m going to be pretty coy about exact specifics of it – also because of expectations and how experimental we are at the moment. I need to be deliberately coy; I need to avoid a kind of War Z situation.”
With that last line, he likely refers to the slew of low-budget knockoff games that followed DayZ’s popularity. Beyond these vague details, nothing else is known, beyond a statement that the game might “seem niche” at first glance.
