It seems like only yesterday that Doki Doki Literature Club released and caused a whirlwind in the gaming community. Some loved it for the cute character design, some got spooked by it’s psychological horror elements. One feeling was shared by both sides of that fence though, the feeling that more Doki Doki Literature Club content was needed.
The fans made sure this sentiment was felt too, as the original Doki Doki Literature Club has overwhelmingly positive reviews on its Steam page. Originally released in 2017, the original game left its mark on gaming for many years. Dan Salvato, the creator of the game, had teased multiple times over the past few years that new content was coming, but due to COVID, the content was delayed.
The delay is now over. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus has finally been announced by Team Salvato And Serenity Forge, bringing with it a ton of updates and new content. Dan Salvato had this to say about the announcement:
“When we initially launched Doki Doki Literature Club, we never expected fans to embrace us the way they did. Four years later, the game still has a strong and growing community and we wanted to bring new content and upgrades to the game that would respect its legacy while enticing players with new experiences. We think the Plus version of the game with all its refinements and new content will be enjoyed by new and longtime fans alike,”
-Dan Salvato
Going back to the new content, there’s a ton. Firstly, the original artwork has received a high-fidelity upgrade, bringing all artwork to Full HD 1080p. Next, there are 6 brand new side stories that will give us a look at the friendships between the girls.
Carrying on the pattern of new content, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus also brings 13 new music tracks, bringing the total number of tracks to 26. The best part? They’re all playable using the brand new in game music player. You can create playlists of your favourite songs, or loop a single track forever.
The final and biggest addition is over 100 unlockable images. Be it wallpapers, game art, or never-before-seen concept art and sketches, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus is really making sure that the plus is worthy of being in the title. All this talk about the additional content is great, but it’s also important to mention that Doki Doki Literature Club Plus will include the full original game in all it’s updated glory.
Now, there is one more piece of awesome news. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus will have digital and physical releases. Not only that, but Doki Doki Literature Club is finally coming to consoles. That’s right! It’ll be releasing June 30th, 2021 on PC via Steam and Epic Games, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One. Do take note that the Xbox and PC versions of the game will not have physical releases.
