Developer id Software has released the 6th update for their first-person shooter masterpiece, DOOM Eternal! The update contains plenty of content and fixes, with the biggest being the next-gen upgrades for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC!
Next-Gen Upgrades
Doom Eternal‘s next-gen upgrades differ depending on the platform and offer different options for players to choose from. The main attraction is, of course, the new Ray Tracing feature, which most next-gen platforms support!
PC players will have the most options for customizing their experience. The lowest recommended rigs will be able to run Ray Tracing at 1440p / 60FPS with low-quality settings. Meanwhile, the most powerful PC can run the game at 2160p / 60 FPS or 1440p / 120 FPS on Ultra-Nightmare settings!
The Xbox Series X features three different graphical modes players can choose from. Ray Tracing Graphics Mode will run at 1800p/60 FPS, 120 FPS Graphics Mode at 1800p, and Balanced Graphics Mode running at 4K/60 FPS! Unfortunately, the Xbox Series S does not support RayTracing but runs 120 FPS Graphics Mode running at 1080p or Balanced at 1440p/60 FPS.
PlayStation 5 shares similar upgrade modes to the Xbox; Ray Tracing Graphics runs at 1800p/60 FPS, 120 FPS Graphics Mode running at 1584p, and Balanced running at 4K/60 FPS. In addition, DuelSense adaptive trigger support has been added with new settings!
New Content
It wouldn’t be a proper DOOM Eternal update without new in-game content! Firstly, every player will receive a brand new Ballista skin called “Ray Tracer.” The skin is designed to be purposefully reflective to show off the Ray Tracing update if it wasn’t obvious!
Battlemode players will be thrilled to see the addition of a new map called “Corrosion”! The map takes place in the Blood Swamps from The Ancient Gods 1 DLC, and is asymmetrical promising unique battles between The Slayer & demons!
In addition, the highly requested Master Level for Taras Nabad has been released! Built from the ground up, the Master Level will be far more challenging than anything seen in the campaign. It’ll include everything from high enemy counts to new environmental hazards to keep players on their toes!
That’s not all; with the new update comes a new seasonal event full of content to unlock! Titled ‘O Slay Can You See,’ the event focuses on independence day & fire aesthetics! Player skins include the Patriotic Slayer Skin, the Ka-Blamo Elemental, the Flamebeau for the Revenant, and Ultra Violet for the Archvile!
