Every few months we can count on Valve to change the meta of Dota 2 by releasing big patches that completely change the pace and mechanics of the game. As of a few days ago Valve promptly released the patch notes for the long awaited 6.87 patch. The update was later released and is currently downloadable for the main client for Dota 2.
The previous meta of Dota 2 revolved around the 3 most commonly picked heroes in all games including pubs and even pro games. The 3 heroes (Outworld Devourer, Invoker, and Spectre) were all either a constant source of complaint or were simply a resource players used to gain matchmaking points. Many players expected these heroes to get hit with huge nerfs so that new heroes would become part of the Dota 2 meta.
As we all hoped Valve didn’t cease to amaze us with this historic update. Many of the big changes to the game include several new items such as the Tome of Knowledge which grants experience upon consumable use. This is the first item in Dota 2 to ever grant an experience bonus to heroes. The meta however as explored upon heroes changes will likely remain similar as the nerfs to Invoker were minuscule and Outworld Devourer & Spectre still have their stronger attributes. However it is likely that Mirana and Shadow Fiend will appear much more often in games with the reworks on their scepter upgrade bonuses. Over the next few weeks players will adapt to the meta change and discover new ways to implement the changes Valve has made to the game.
