Do we have enough mobile games of large franchises? Yes. Will that stop companies from using every IP possible to cash in on “free-to-play games”? Probably not. Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle is no different, having secured over $2 billion in revenue since its release.
It’s also had some scandals, something anyone who has played a loot-box filled game should probably have anticipated. I have nothing against the games themselves (though I find them to be tedious most of the time), but the practice is something I can’t see myself buying into (pun not intended). There are plenty of people who love mobile games, and all the power to them. Fortunately for them, Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle is adding new content.
Dragon Ball Dominance
Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle has been out worldwide since July 16th, 2015. Developed by Akatsuki and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, it has exceeded 300 million downloads, and has elements of board games, collectable card games, and puzzles.
The main gameplay is similar to a board game, with “spots dedicated to items, power-ups, traps, and fights”. In “fights”, players compete in a Match-3 game/puzzle, using the matching-coloured orbs to attack or use abilities. After the player matches a certain amount of orbs, they can enter “Dokkan Mode”, which allows them to use a Super-Attack.
Now, Bandai Namco is celebrating the game’s 5th anniversary by adding new characters, new Story Events and daily login bonuses. Players can now summon Gogeta and Vegito, who can also be Dokkan Awakened into Legendary Rare characters.
The story events are “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” and “Future Trunks Saga”, where players can recruit Broly (Kid), Vegeta (Kid), and Zamasu. Finally, the daily login bonuses run from July 6th to August 10th. On the first day, players will receive as much as 45 Dragon Stones, 5 “55” Special Summon Tickets and “Super Saiyan God SS Goku.”
Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle is out now worldwide for Android and iOS.For more reviews and gaming news you can keep up to date at Informed Pixel. Want to speak to the team and interact with other gamers? You can do so over on the Informed Pixel Facebook page or on the Informed Pixel Twitter account.
