Thanks to a stream from Square Enix this morning, we now have official confirmation that Dragon Quest XI is on its was to both the Playstation 4 and the New Nintendo 3DS.
The game will have the same ‘story’ for both versions of the game although each one will cater more to its platform and its technology. The Playstation 4 version will be running on the Unreal Engine 4 and will be in development by Square Enix with the help of Orca. It has been stated very clearly that the 3DS version of the game will not be a ‘port’ of the Playstation 4 version. Instead, the same team will be developing a unique 3DS version utilize the New Nintendo 3DS in all it’s glory. It will display the game in both traditional 2D sprite and top-down 3D graphics.
Dragon Quest XI will be directed by Takeshi Uchikawa and Koichi Sugiyama, two composers whom have also worked on Dragon Quest titles such at Dragon Quest Monsters, Heroes, X and VIII.
At this time there has been no hinted release date or window for either Japan or North America. Hopefully this is the start of many more traditional JRPGs coming to this generation of consoles.
