The second last press conference at E3 2018 is hosted by Sony. Here is a jot-point look at what Sony announced during their press conference, and what is coming out in 2018 and beyond.
The Last of Us 2 trailer kicks off showcasing Ellie’s love interest, then immediately evolves into a bloody mess with Ellie’s attempt at survival. She is shown stabbing a man to death, then proceeds to infiltrate her way through a camp where she continues to brutally execute her enemies. The Last of Us II was not given a release date at this time, but as a fan of the series myself, I was floored by the game’s presentation.
Fans who pre-order their copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, will receive four maps from the Black Ops series for use in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The maps Jungle, Summit, Slums, and Firing Range are available through the pre-order and are playable in both titles.
An expansive trailer of Ghost of Tsushima was shown off as the second title during Sony’s Press Conference. The game showed off incredible landscapes with an impressive pallete of colors, as the player moved on through the environment, slaying samurai and other enemies in his travels.
Kingdom hearts appears to be making its way around the press conferences, with the gameplay trailer showcasing the Pirates of the Caribbean universe. The game was also shown during Microsoft’s press conference, and it looks like Square Enix is trying to promote the game rather than platform exclusivity, a win for gamers all around. A new limited edition Kingdom Hearts III Playstation Pro bundle was announced during the press conference, but no further information was added regarding the price or availability.
Snatch Games, who is compromised of Rick & Morty’s Justin Rolland, announced their new Playstation VR optional title Trover Saves The Universe. The comedic game releases in the coming months, exclusively for the Playstation 4. Afterwards, Koei Tecmo announced that Nioh 2 is now in development, but a release window was not announced.
Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 Remake finally gave us a cinematic trailer, confirming the game was progressing through its development cycle rather nicely. The game is planned to release on January 25th, 2019, adding another title to next year’s lineup. Remedy Entertainment’s new title Control was announced, taking on the appearance of their own Quantum Break, an exclusive for the Xbox One and PC.
Hideo Kojima’s anticipated title Death Stranding was given a large chunk of time during the press conference, with a trailer showcasing The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus. It left more questions than it answered, but gave us a brief synopsis of what to expect when it launches next year.
Last, but certainly not least, was Insomniac’s Spiderman. They released a new gameplay trailer, revealing the game’s core fighting mechanics. Spiderman’s enemies from the franchise, Rhino, Electro, Scorpion, Vulture, and Negative Man make appearances in the gameplay trailer, with it ending on Spiderman getting the crap beat out of him and being saving by an unknown hero.
This is the second last press conference for E3 2018, and again, we were left for a lot of game announcements, but not a lot of release dates or release windows. Also, a lot of titles appear to be launching in 2019, missing the 2018 release window. Save for Nintendo, who will host their livestream tomorrow at 9 AM PT, we hope to see more titles coming out in 2018, as opposed to next year.
