To finish the celebrations for the 15th anniversary of Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft announced details for the future of the series with reveals for the games and other media and there is a lot that was covered for such a small show so we will try to cover all of those parts.
The Last Chapter
With two years of post-launch content, the story of Evior seems to be coming to a close. Announced during the showcase was an upcoming free quest line which will launch in a few months, and it will be called The Last Chapter. From the start of the game, it was revealed that Evior’s story was always going to end somewhere else, and with this final storyline, we will get those answers.
It will reportedly tie up some of the lingering storylines established throughout the game; it will even include a few surprising historical figures. As someone who has spent a lot of time in this game, I am excited to see how it ends and what comes next.
Mirage
Instead of the massive worlds we have played with the more recent games in the series, this takes us back to the play style and gameplay of the earlier games. With a smaller game world and a focus on Stealth, assassinations and parkour; we step into the shoes of Basim Ibn Ishaq (also known as the reincarnated Isu Loki), the master assassin from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
This game will fill in his backstory from being a thief on the streets of Baghdad in 861 to becoming a recruit of the Hidden Ones and, finally, the Master Assassin we met in Valhalla. While there is not a set date in place for its release, we know that it will be coming out next year and is going to launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 And PC. The pre-orders are now live for the base game, Deluxe and Collectors.
Codename Red
After many years of the community asking, we are finally getting a full title set in Japan. As the publisher announced, “Experience the full Shinobi fantasy in our future open world RPG title set during Feudal Japan”.
This is set to be the next premium title in the series and will be released after Mirage, which means it will be 2024 before it is released. Apart from the trailer, there is not any more information at this time that Ubisoft has announced, but I am sure when they do, we will be blown away by the setting and style.
Codename Hexe
I wish that we were shown more to this than the small teaser; there are a few theories on what this game will be, and one of the main ideas is that it will be set in 16th century Europe during the Witch Trials.
It is said that it will be the darkest game in the series and will be a departure from previous games. As this is set to release after Codename Red and Mirage, there isn’t a lot of information at this time, but I think once Mirage is released, we will have a clearer idea of what’s to come with this title
Infinity
The long rumoured live-service game has been given more clarifying information, it will be “A portal into the Assassin’s Creed universe.” It’s not a game as previously thought it will be a platform for which players can visit all the adventures spanning the 15 years of the series and other adventures going forward; Hexe and Red are set to be on this platform, so when they are getting closer to release there will be more information for this.
Ancient Multiplayer
As it gets closer to October 1st when Ubisoft is shutting down the multiplayer on older games such as Brotherhood, Revelations and 3, as well as others. It was announced during the showcase that they are looking at bringing the multiplayer aspect back to the series in Infinity, this will be a welcome part of the series with the previous ones gone and Unity being unable to be used at this time.
Codename Jade
It was announced that for mobile devices, Codename Jade would bring the familiar Assassin’s Creedstyle onto the smaller screens and supported with touch controls, similar to the cloud gaming controls for Xbox. Looking similar to the graphics for the Switch ports of the previous games in the series. The events of the game will be set in Ancient China, in 215BC. Although the release date is unknown at this time, it was said that it would debut soon.
Netflix Partnership
As previously announced, Netflix and Ubisoft are currently developing a live-action Assassin’s Creed show and multiple animated series. They confirmed that development for these projects was still coming along well and that when they had more details, they would release them. In addition to the partnership, a mobile Assassin’s Creed game will release exclusively through Netflix Games.
Others Announced
Lastly, there were a few smaller announcements that were made to round off the show, such as the Assassin’s Creed Symphonic Adventure, with more information soon to come. Additionally, there is a podcast called Assassin’s Creed: Echoes of History, an art book covering the 15 years of Assassin’s Creed from Dark Horse coming out soon.
A new novel called The Magnus Conspiracy and an Amunet figurine, and some Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag webtoons have also been announced to be released soon. We were shown so much to come from the series for at least the next three years, which is a good sign that we will not be asking for much for the foreseeable future.
