Sam Raimi is having a bit of a renaissance. His Spider-Man is back on his way to theatres, he is working on the Doctor Strange sequel, and now this. His original creation from the 1980’s is set to scare a new audience.
Everyone’s favourite chainsaw-handed protagonist Ash Williams is back in Evil Dead: The Game. But this time, he’s bringing his friends from the franchise with him. Better yet, the trailer was narrated by Bruce Campbell himself.
Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games are the duo set to release it. The game is a co-op and PvP multiplayer action game. If the movies are anything to go by, there should be plenty of gore.
GROOVY “GRAND GUIGNOL”
Ash isn’t the only returning character– players can choose from the likes of Pablo, Henry the Red and Cheryl Williams. In other words, characters and Deadites will span the entire series, including Army of Darkness.
Players will have to work together in order to “banish the vile Kandarian Demon.” Or the player can become the demon, “[use]… powers of possession to stop the good guys dead and swallow their souls.”
The humans will have an arsenal of their own, including Ash’s Gauntlet, Boomstick and Chainsaw. The locales these fights take place in will also feature from the franchise. What would an Evil Dead game be without the iconic cabin? Players will also collect pages of the Necronomicon, but how these factor in isn’t stated.
Judging by the trailer, the mix of gore, horror and humor will make the jump to video-game form. Unfortunately, the only release date so far is a vague 2021.
Evil Dead: The Game will release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
