Fallout 76 isn’t in the greatest position. When the game came out, it was heavily derided for alleged pay-t0-win mechanics and an empty world. That’s to be expected in a post-apocalypse, however, the lack of NPC’s really hinder the feeling of immersion.
There may not be many people, but there should at least be some. Sure, other players are in the same lobby/zone, but even those interactions have limits. Basically, it’s seen as a lacking entry in the Fallout series, to say the least.
Bethesda is doing what they can to turn the game (service?) around; it appears they are listening to those who thought the game needs more of a population. In Fallout 76‘s newest, and largest update, entitled Wastelanders, the game will receive exactly that.
Fortunately, Bethesda didn’t just leave it at NPC’s. There will be a new main quest, new choices to make, a reputation system and companions. Even better, there are now dialogue options, like there should be in a Fallout game. You can check out the launch trailer below.
Its not Fallout without customisation, and the Wastelanders update will also have new armour and weapons to earn. In terms of story, the player will team up with factions and alliances to “uncover the secrets of West Virginia”. But I haven’t even mentioned the best part yet– it’s free!
If the trailer wasn’t enough information, you can check out this website that goes into detail about the new update. Fallout 76 is the series’ first attempt at an online-only environment set in a post-apocalyptic West Virginia. The player travels around scavenging resources, fighting animals mutated by radiation, and either helping or shooting other players.
Those who own the game can expect be able to download the update on April 14th, 2020 for PC (including Steam), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
