This is it. We have achieved peak dog-in-games.
Ubisoft’s “Is Boomer a Good Boy” support page has officially confirmed that the dog named Boomer from their new title, Far Cry 5, is a good boy.
Boomer functions in the same way that many other Dog-Companion-AI’s do in many games that are out on the market- but that is not important; what is important is that he is, in fact, a good boy. The support page simply says, “Yes. Yes, Boomer is a very good boy”
with an accompanying image of the very good boy and that is more than enough for me.
Having done some investigation into evidence that can back up Ubisoft’s claim and confirmation that Boomer is a good boy, I have created a list of possible reasons that Ubisoft would say this.
- Boomer ALWAYS runs beside the car.
- Boomer ALWAYS helps in battle.
- Boomer ALWAYS gives you nice looks.
- Boomer ALWAYS tries his best.
- Boomer is a very pretty puppy.
- Boomer is the best at tagging enemies (yes he is, yes he is).
- Boomer is number one at fetch because he only brings back useful items—and you don’t even need to throw them!
- Boomer loves being pet.
- Boomer loves you.
User JLP from the Steam Discussion page is deducing Boomer to be an Australian Cattle dog / Australian Shepherd mix. This would make Boomer a mutt, meaning that it is in his genes to be a good boy. The dog time page for the Australian Cattle dog says that these dogs are an “extremely intelligent, active, and sturdy dog breed.” The same website claims that the Australian Shepherd dog is “a working dog breed at heart… is happiest when he has a job to do. He can be a wonderful family companion if his intelligence and energy are channeled into dog sports or activities.” All of these attributes for these breeds are truly the makings for a good boy, especially when they are put together. Ubisoft have not confirmed JLP’s speculations at this point in time, however, even if they did it would not change the fact that Boomer has been confirmed to be a very good boy.
Having only been out for a matter of days, Far Cry 5 is seeing record success, which is fantastic news because that means that many people have experienced the good boy Boomer. Far Cry 5 is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
