There’s some bad news about the arrival of the Final Fantasy VII Remake; Square Enix has announced a delay. It’s a slight blow to fans who are eagerly awaiting their return to Cloud Strife’s world. The saving grace? It won’t be much longer. Two of Square Enix’s most highly-anticipated games to release this year are delayed. First, the Final Fantasy VII Remake moves from March 3rd to April 10th, 2020.
In a message from game producer Yoshinori Kitase, it says that the team are “making this tough decision to give [themselves] a few extra weeks to apply final polish”. He adds an apology on behalf of the team, and acknowledges the patience of the fans. He also assures those who are waiting that the Final Fantasy VII Remake will have “the quality that our fans… deserve.”
In other Square Enix news, the AAA superhero game Marvel’s Avengers has also come up against a delay. Unfortunately, they weren’t quite the match for its superpowers and therefore will be releasing on September 4th as opposed to May 15th, 2020. Heads of Crystal Dynamics (the developers) Scot Amos and Ron Rosenberg echoed the sentiments by Yoshinori Kitase, and say its needed for polish and fine-tuning.
If you want some Square Enix-produced games before then, you have some great choices coming– Dying Light 2, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered, and DLC for Kingdom Hearts III are all on the way.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake is a timed PlayStation 4 exclusive. It will then release on Xbox One and PC a year later. Marvel’s Avengers will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC at the same time.
