In a surprise announcement, Square Enix announced that Hajime Tabata has resigned his position as Final Fantasy XV’s game director. As such, three out of the four planning downloadable content episodes for Final Fantasy XV have been cancelled.
The news comes from a special Square Enix livestream, where the company announced Tabata’s departure and confirmed that the downloadable episodes for Aranea, Lunafreye, and Noctis have been cancelled. The only bit of good news was that the game’s first downloadable episode, featuring Ardyn, is still in development and will release in March 2019.
Reasoning for why Tabata left was redacted from the announcement, but he did say he is thankful to his “loyal fans.” He is planning to move on in his career to develop his own company. “I have a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after FFXV. For that reason, I have decided to leave my current position and start my own business in order to achieve my goal,” Tabata said. “From this day on, I will cheer on and support Square Enix and Luminous Productions together with all you fans. I would like to thank everyone who continues to support FFXV and those who have also supported myself personally.”
Final Fantasy XV is available for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
