The hit movie, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, has won over many people in the Sonic franchise! However, many newcomers beg the question: What is the best Sonic game? Well, in that case, I strongly recommend Sonic 3 & Knuckles!
Sonic 3 & Knuckles has a surprisingly strong narrative given the Sega Genesis’ limitations. The story follows Sonic and Tails as they try to take back the powerful Chaos Emeralds from the evil Dr Robotnik and their new foe, Knuckles The Echidna! Sound familiar? Sprawling with many crowd-pleasing narrative moments throughout gameplay!
Speaking of the gameplay, It’s enjoyable to play! The level design is excellent with excellent art and music, well-placed obstacles and enemies, and it’s overall a very fair platformer for its time. The overall game is excellent because it aged the overall experience like a fine wine.
Overall, Sonic 3 and Knuckles is still a fantastic game, even almost 30 years later! While the game is currently not very easy to obtain, the upcoming game, Sonic Origins, Will have an HD remaster of the classic title along with a plethora of new features! The game will release on Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4
