Games To Look Out For In January 2020

It’s a new year, and you know what that means, don’t you? No? Neither do I. But that’s okay because hot on the heels of some pretty stellar games in 2019 (looking at you Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice) are some fun looking titles coming at you this month.

We know that everybody and their Grandma’s spent practically all of their money during the holidays, so they’re intent to use January as a fiscal recovery period. Well too bad, buckaroos, because it is time to break open those piggy banks and get ready for some hot new video game action.

Here is our list of games to look out for in January 2020!

Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore. JAN 17th (Nintendo Switch)

A port of the Wii U JRPG that was released back in 2016, Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore is a crossover of the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei universes. Dungeon crawling, turn based combat, up-beat music, all while running around a modern-day Tokyo provide a lighthearted atmosphere that should sate most JRPG fans aching to get their next fix.

I say most because the original western release on the Wii U was met with some pretty harsh backlash due to its censorship involving things like changing the age of characters, removal of “fan service” (covering up cleavage and such), and even changing the gameplay of dungeons. It appears that Nintendo has not learned its lesson and is keeping the censorship for the Nintendo Switch port.

DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT. JAN 17th (Xbox, PS4, PC)

I have to admit that this one has the child version of me standing in the center of the room clenching his fists and screaming at the top of his lungs trying to power up. DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT is an action RPG where you get to go through the life of none other than Goku.

That doesn’t just mean moving from one battle to the next, although that is ultimately what we came for.  You will train, fish, fly, and there is even an eating mini game where you power up by reliving the hilarious “shovel food as fast as they can into their mouth” technique the Saiyans are famous for.

At the time of writing this Bandai Namco has just released a new video titled “This time on DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT” that teases some of the side quests and even new added scenes in the game. Check it out.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition. JAN 23rd (PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android)

The classic JRPG originally released for the Nintendo Gamecube back in 2004 for western markets has gotten a remaster. The game takes place in a world where crystals protect it from poisonous miasma, but require myrrh to recharge. You take control of a caravan of adventurers out to collect myrrh, as well as knowledge of the world around you.

The remastered edition will include new voice-overs for characters, updated graphics, and a new online multiplayer mode that includes cross play over different systems. That’s right, you can finally take your Game Boy Advance link cable out into the back yard and burn it in ritualistic sacrifice to the video game gods.

Kingdom Hearts 3: Re Mind. JAN 23rd (PlayStation 4) (FEB 25th Xbox One)

Didn’t get enough Donald, Goofy, and good ol’ what’s his name (just kidding, Sora, I think you’re neat) last January when Kingdom Hearts 3 hit? Not to worry! Square Enix has the hook up for you with a new story DLC that is set to take place right before the final battle of Kingdom Hearts 3 took place. It will include a new story that has Sora tracing the hearts of the seven guardians of light. It also includes 13 boss battles, and a secret episode complete with its own boss battle..

Kingdom Hearts 3 had some issues in the UK and EU last year regarding delivery of orders that had some of us a little salty, to put it lightly. Regardless, Re Mind looks fun and could give some more insight into the plights of the other characters of the main game. That should tide over those of us aching for our next hit of Kingdom Hearts 3 goodness.
