Things might not be at peak performance when it comes to game releases at the moment, but there are plenty of games to look out for in May 2020. Much like the past few months, there is a mix of new and old slated for release.
While there may not be any behemoth AAA’s to overshadow the others, there are some great re-releases and indie games on the way. This is a quick look at games that you should keep an eye out for during the month of May.
Void Bastards (Out now on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4)
Here’s another rogue-lite game to add to the pile, although once again, it has some differences its bringing with it. It’s a first-person shooter set in a science-fiction world, where the player is a “rehydrated” prisoner. Like others of its ilk, the levels are procedurally generated and death is permanent.
Tasked with boarding other ships, fighting enemies and salvaging materials for their own ship, the player must survive the Sargasso Nebula for one final jump.
Star Wars Episode I: Racer (May 12th, 2020 on Nintendo Switch/ May 26th, 2020 on PlayStation 4)
I don’t think this game needs much introduction. Its a port of the original Nintendo 64 Star Wars pod-racing game, Sebulba and all. One of the more interesting (albeit somewhat pointless) aspects of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was its pod-racing.
Take that Tatooine race, extend it across various types of planets and ecosystems, add a full pantheon of alien racers, and speed it up a couple of hundred miles an hour; that’s this game in a nutshell.
The Wonderful 101: Remastered (May 19th, 2020 on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4)
Originally a Nintendo Wii U game, it may have missed a chance at popularity. An action-adventure game by PlatinumGames, overseen by the producer and director of games like Viewtiful Joe and Okami, it requires the player to control a group of superheroes in an isometric viewpoint.
The games re-release was helped by backers on Kickstarter, far surpassing its goals. It even achieved the stretch goals, one of which included a separate 2D side-scroller based on a character, Luka.
Maneater (May 22nd on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One/ TBA on Nintendo Switch)
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a shark? If so, this is your game. The player controls a bull-shark for some revenge on the fisherman who murdered your Mother and left you scarred. Essentially, its Jaws: The Revenge, the game.
As the shark, you must gain “nutrients” by hunting other fish, turtles, people etc. As the shark gains “nutrients” he will grow in size, allowing for upgrades and new abilities. Eventually, the shark can become a Megalodon and take out other Apex Predators such as killer whales, other sharks and giant squid.
Those are only some Games to Look Out For in May 2020. If nothing here appeals to you, there are still plenty of other games set for release; might as well try out some new ones while the quarantine continues.
