Twenty-five years since its release, GoldenEye 007 is back with a release for the Xbox and The Nintendo Switch; a new generation can enjoy such a wonderful piece of gaming history. While there have been rumours and leaks hinting that there was to be a release of the beloved classic game, we now have the official announcement.
Nintendo Switch Online
Announced during the Nintendo Direct presentation, GoldenEye 007 was confirmed to be coming to Nintendo Switch Online as part of the N64 games collection, joining other classic games such as Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask , PokémonSnap and also F-Zero X.
The game will not be changed apart from some quality of life tweaks so that it can work well on the hardware.
The single player story where you control James Bond as he navigates through the seven missions (and two secret levels) that are based on the movie’s story. The acclaimed multiplayer where you can play with three other players in different modes and maps that can be played split-screen locally and exclusively on Nintendo Switch; it can be played online. The other mode that will be included in the cheat options that you can use in both of the other modes, with such classic cheats as DK mode (big head mode), infinite ammo and paintball mode.
Xbox Game Pass
Not long after Nintendo announced it was joining Its online collection, Xbox released the news that it would also be coming to Xbox game pass, However this version of the game will not be a port of the original game instead there would be improvements and changes made. This version will have 4K resolution, Dual Analogue controls, Widescreen Display Options and smoother framerate choices.
The other main difference with this version is the addition of achievements that can be earned. While a set of achievements have appeared online previously, it is unclear if these will be the achievements that will be included with the release as previously mentioned; there was no gameplay shown in this new version.
I am sure that GoldenEye 007 will play and look better than the original release, as mentioned the Switch will have online multiplayer; however, it will still be possible to play it locally on the Xbox. One final thing about the Xbox version is that it was announced if you own the digital version of Rare Replay you will get it for free as part of it.
