Google Stadia has been somewhat of an enigma since it’s announcement earlier this year. Is it a console? Not really, at least in a physical sense. Is it subscription service? Nope, not exactly. It seems to hover somewhere between the two. How much will it cost? That depends on which package you want.
Google hasn’t exactly made it easy to figure it out, either. Will games lag? What if the customer doesn’t have top-notch internet? Will the customer own the games available, or is it more like a rental? Google has attempted to clear some of this up, but even then they seem to focus more on what can be done with it (play games in Ultra HD, or across literally any TV, computer, tablet etc., including smart phones), not what it is. It could be nothing more than my lack of technological knowledge, but I’m still confused as to how the entire set-up will actually work. It certainly makes things slightly more fascinating on my part.
With the imminent arrival of Google Stadia on November 19th, Google has finally released the initial game line-up that players can expect to have Day One. It’s…slightly disappointing. Other games are going to be added in the near future, but the list to kick things off is sparse, and what is there isn’t new either (with one exception). The list of games available as of November 19th are as follows:
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Destiny 2: The Collection
- GYLT
- Just Dance 2020
- Kine
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Rise of the Tomb Raider
- SAMURAI SHODOWN
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
- Thumper
- Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
And there you have it. GYLT is an exclusive game to Google, leaving it the only one you can’t already get somewhere else, and probably for cheaper. Its hard to say at the moment how well Google’s foray into the gaming market will go– they certainly have the potential, but judging by what they’ve produced so far, it doesn’t seem to be living up to that potential.
