You know the music, it’s time to dance! Fans are getting their wish as Halo 3: ODST’s classic Firefight mode is making its grand return to Halo: The Master Chief Collection! So suit up, assemble your squad, and prepare to drop feet first into the fan favorite game-mode.
After 5 years of Halo 3: ODST’s campaign being added to The Master Chief Collection, there’s been little to no mention of the popular Firefight mode being added. That is, until recently when 343 Industries released a new trailer announcing the addition of Firefight. While confirming Firefight is being added later this summer, it also teases that Halo Insiders may be testing it soon.
First introduced in Halo 3: ODST, Firefight is an action packed Co-Op survival horde mode where players work together to fight off waves of Covenant. With every passing wave and the inclusion of game modifying skulls, the enemies become tougher and challenges escalate. This would force players to mix up tactics, communicate effectively, and truly test their skills in battle.
With a variety of different maps, customization mode options, and the ability to play as characters from the campaign, Firefight became true standout experience in Halo. The game-mode was instant fan-favorite hit and has been featured in almost every Halo game since, in one form or another. With Halo Reach and its unique Firefight mode being added Halo: The Master Chief Collection in December 2019, it was only a matter of time until the original Halo 3: ODST Firefight was added.
Fans can now rejoice as Halo 3: ODST’s Firefight mode is confirmed to be releasing later this summer. While it’s not specified, it is expected to be available on both Xbox One and PC versions at release. Additionally, it is likely that Halo Insiders will be testing the mode alongside Halo 3‘s upcoming test flight later this month.
