Microsoft and 343 Industries have shattered a most impressive streaming record with Halo 5: Guardians.
Arguably the biggest news of this announcement was the Guinness World Record title for the ‘Most Watched Game Launch Broadcast‘, with over 330,000 streams airing the night of the launch and over 5.5 Million views across the whole week.
Since it’s launch on October 27th, Halo 5: Guardians has sold more than $400 million in global sales, making the Halo franchise surpass $5 billion in it’s lifetime. While this isn’t the biggest launch of all time, Halo 5: Guardians is now the best selling Xbox One exclusive to date.
Fans of the game have already enjoyed over 21 Million hours of gameplay, with 12 Million of those being from the Halo 5 campaign. Additionally, more than 45 Million REQ packs have been opened with over 568 Million REQ cards being obtained.
“The success of Halo 5: Guardians is a testament to the innovative work from the entire team at 343 Industries to bring this installment to Xbox One and the incredible community of fans who have come to love the story, characters and gameplay central to the franchise,” said Phil Spencer, head of Xbox. “The game represents all the possibilities of Xbox One and has earned its place as the anchor title in the greatest holiday games lineup in Xbox history.”
Halo 5: Guardians launched exclusively for the Xbox One on October 27th. Just before launch, we posted our review for the game and gave it a 9/10 because it “defines what next-generation entertainment is all about.”
