Halo Infinite is right around the corner, so 343 Industries has been feeding us substantial information every month by giving us monthly High Level updates, and answering our questions regarding the update via an Ask343 Q&A segment on YouTube. While last month’s Q&A gave us crumbs of news, this Q&A gave us a whole 5-star meal with controversial sides.
Lets kick things off with more campaign details. The team reaffirmed that Halo Infinite isn’t actually open world, but every level is expansive enough to give off that feeling while exploring the Pacific North West themed Zeta Halo.
There’s also new cool additions, such as knocking objects and enemies off the edge of the Halo ring, bringing weapons and vehicles over to the next mission, and weather cycles.
Another thing that the sandbox team told us is that the day/night cycle will change the dynamic of gameplay. From Banished patrols looking for you, (much like Halo 3: ODST) to grunts sleeping when they should be patrolling, and nocturnal animals roaming around the dark landscape. They also confirmed that you can upgrade your equipment, which is a nice touch.
However, the team also confirmed that playable elites, and dual wielding will not be in Halo Infinite at launch. Campaign Art Lead Justin Dinges clarified that there are no playable Elites because Halo Infinite is a Master Chief story portraying the importance of being a spartan. The sandbox team never found a way to balance out dual wielding which is why its not making it in Infinite.
