Gamescom’s Opening Night was full of new and upcoming games of all kinds. Normally, it would be an in-person event. But, much like E3 a few months ago, Gamescom had to resort to a livestream.
Whether it had the same excitement as previous years will have to be decided by each person; however, it did show off a multitude of styles and genres, so there should have been something for everyone to notice. Here, we’ll go over some of the bigger announcements from the show. You are encouraged to check out the rest of the show below for things not in this article. Below is the list that makes up our Highlight of the Week: Gamescom Opening Night.
Fall Guys Sales and Season 2
The game that has taken PlayStation Plus and Steam by storm (over 7 million purchased on Steam, most downloaded PlayStation Plus game) has new content coming. In October 2020, Season 2 will begin, and it will incorporate a Medieval theme. There will also be new games to add to the somewhat limited roster. No doubt there will be some updates as well.
Dragon Age Isn’t Extinct
This isn’t too much of a surprise, but this early of an announcement was unexpected. Bioware didn’t have much to show for their upcoming action-RPG fantasy, but they did show behind-the-scenes footage and the team talking about their passion for the world and characters.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Gameplay
This is the first look at one of the upcoming console exclusives for Sony’s PlayStation 5. While there is no release date, we do get a look at how the game plays. While I can’t say it looks revolutionary, I can say it looks to keep the Pixar-like fun from the previous games intact.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands
October is looking to be a big month for gamers. As if it needed more, the new expansion to long-running MMORPG World Of Warcraft will release on October 27th, 2020. Blizzard introduced it with an animated short film, the first of four leading up to release. Players are encouraged to “seize [their] destiny in the world between worlds.”
12 Minutes’ Casting
I hadn’t heard of this game before now, but it already has me curious. Not only is the concept strange (I won’t spoil it here), the Indie game has managed to secure some famous voice-actors. James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe will all be heard as characters in the game.
The Gamescom Opening Night had some great teases and announcements. It’s not even close to everything, though, so check out the live-stream if you have some time.
