The PlayStation 5 Console design has been something that PlayStation fans and none PlayStation fans have been waiting for. After seeing the somewhat box-like design of the Xbox Series X, many gaming fans were eager to see what style PlayStation could bring to the table.
I’d like to say they didn’t disappoint, because technically they did bring style. It’s just a style that maybe a whole lot of people wouldn’t usually go for. I’ll let you watch the trailer below and see for yourself:
So yeah, it’s interesting. It seems that the feedback of “Why is it so angled? It won’t fit on my shelf.” from the PlayStation 4 was taken very seriously. Instead now we’ll likely hear “Why is it so curved? It won’t fit on my shelf.” Jokes aside, it doesn’t look like it’ll support horizontal orientation, judging by its shape. If that’s true, it’ll be the first PlayStation console ever to not support horizontal orientation.
The way the console curves outwards at the top, but inwards at the bottom makes it seem like it won’t sit right horizontally. The question has been asked about Xbox’s Series X console too, since that looks like it naturally sits vertically. The Xbox Series X though does look like it could sit horizontally, since y’know, it’s practically a box.
One rumor floating around was that Xbox was going to show off two different console variants. It seems that PlayStation has beat them to the punchline with that, as the PlayStation 5 console reveal also showed off a second version of the console. The description is as follows:
So for those fans who like modem looking consoles and want more style in their room than a box, this might be the console for you. Until we see if Xbox is actually revealing a second console, it’s also possible PlayStation 5 will be cheaper, given this new design. PlayStation 5 is set to launch worldwide sometime in Holiday 2020.
