Ubisoft Forward showed off what people can expect from the company in the immediate future. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla finally showed some actual gameplay, and it looks great. Ubisoft Montreal also announced their attempt at a free-to-play battle-royale game, Hyper Scape. However unlike the other games shown, Hyper Scape’s Open Beta is available.
Full Disclosure: I still haven’t played a single match of a battle royale game. I tend to be more of a single-player gamer, and first-person shooters were never my favourite genre. While I’ve said it a few times recently (Destruction All-Stars looks fun), I may actually have to try this one out. The battles take place in urban environments like streets and rooftops, allowing more opportunity for ambushes, escape and strategic manoeuvring.
There are 4 game modes available in the Open Beta. First is the Crown Rush Squad, of which there will now be a Crown Rush Solo variation. The Solo version will feature “the same showdown rules, except everyone is fighting for themselves.”
There will also be 2 Limited Time Modes soon: Hacker Runner Squad and Turbo Mode Squad, but there is no information on these as of yet. Alongside the new modes, there is a new weapon, The Harpy, an SMG that “excels in close-to-mid-quarters combat.” Shockwave, a new Hack, is also featured.
One of the more innovative features, and something that caught my eye, was the interactivity of those watching on Twitch. In the game, the AI host can throw randomness into the mix. It can give guns infinite ammo, show everyone on the map, or decreasing gravity. Those who are watching the game can vote to help the AI decide which augments it should use.
Hyper Scape‘s Open Online Beta is accessible on PC only, though it will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One eventually. Ubisoft has not given a firm release date yet. If you would like to try the Beta or want more information, you can go here.
