When one ponders nature, it tends to go in a few specific directions. Is there meaning? Are humans part of it, or somehow separate? Do animals have feelings?
Then there are the more important ones, like who would win between a Grizzly Bear and a Silverback Gorilla? Well, there’s one more vital nature-oriented question that we can now admit is universal– what would happen if crab fighting became a sport? This month’s Indie Highlight is Fight Crab.
Taste Like Crab, Fight Like People
Fight Crab, a game with probably the most apt title, is exactly what you think it it. Well, not exactly, but close enough. Two crabs enter, one crab leaves. Created by developers Calappa Games, who also made Neo Aquarium: The King of Crustaceans, and they look to put their spin on fighting games.
While most battles would have the player whittle down the other’s health bar, Fight Crab scuttles its way around this with a new take. Instead, as a “physics-based fighter” it is the goal of each crab to flip the other on its back and keep it there.
Players can choose from among 32 different sea creatures, including what looks to be Japanese spider crabs and lobsters among them. However, where it gets really wild is that players aren’t expected to use only their pincers. That would be boring! So instead, players will have 48 weapons to choose from.
Everything from katanas to sickles, jet engines to lightsabers, and shotguns to electrowhips are available, ready to create some crab-havoc. It will have a single-player campaign that can be played in co-op and the usual perks like a wave attack mode and PvP.
The Indie Highlight Fight Crab has been in Early Access on itch.io since August 2019, and will have a full release for both Nintendo Switch and PC on July 30th, 2020 and will cost $20 USD.
