New World Interactive is opening a new game studio in Calgary, Alberta, called “New World North.”
The studio is responsible for delivering the Insurgency series, with a console version of Insurgency: Sandstorm releasing later this year. Their doors are slated to open on May 15th, 2019, and are looking for talented people with experience in almost every facet. If you are a game developer, send a resume to their hiring team at [email protected].
“We are committed to constantly improving ourselves and pushing the boundaries with the experiences we create,” Said Jeremy Blum, CEO of New World Interactive. “With our roots coming from a hobbyist background, it’s been an ongoing challenge for us to centralize our team. Given the company’s newfound success with Insurgency: Sandstorm we have a tremendous opportunity to open a studio and bring together the majority of our team. After careful consideration into where this location should be, we have decided on Calgary, and look forward to growing our team in our new home.”
Being from Calgary ourselves, the video game development scene is somewhat lacking, despite the several game focuses surrounding the area. Schools in Lethbridge, Calgary, and Red Deer offer programs in game development, but the only major studio in Alberta is Edmonton’s Bioware, currently producing Anthem and the next Dragon Age title. Calgary is not known for game development, but this move may put the spotlight on the city.
Insurgency: Sandstorm is available for PC.
