I think we can all agree that the world could use a bit more Keanu Reeves right now. Well, the people at Good Shepherd Entertainment, Lionsgate and Bithell Games are going to give you just that. Or rather, the likeness of Keanu. Or rather rather, the likeness of a character he plays, whatever, I’ll take what I can get! John Wick Hex is coming to PlayStation 4, is what I’m trying to say.
John Wick Hex originally released on PC in October 2019, and now the people at Bithell Games have collaborated with Ant Workshop to redesign the game for controller use. It is a prequel to the film series, set in the height of John’s shooty-punchy-stabby for money days. Set with a graphic noir art design, alongside a score from Grammy-nominated Austin Wintory, the games aesthetic is definitely pleasing.
It’s part tactics game, part action, where you fill a timeline of moves for John using chess-like strategy. The moves Wick uses are designed in collaboration with the creative and stunt teams behind the film franchise. Upon completion, you can watch a smooth playback of the choices you made to see what your action scene might look like.
The map has a fog of war to simulate Wick’s own vision limitations, with different weapons to change your tactics on the fly. Ammunition comes in limited supply, and John Wick loves to double-tap, so you best keep track. While the game doesn’t feature the voice of Keanu, film cast members Ian McShane and Lance Reddick do make appearances along with VA extraordinaire Troy Baker.
Time to bust out your black suit and grow an isolation beard. John Wick Hex will be available for $19.99 on the PlayStation 4 via the PlayStation Store on May 5.
It is currently available for PC exclusively on the Epic Games Store. Keep up to date on gaming news and reviews at Informed Pixel. Want to speak to the team and interact with other gamers?
