There has been a lot of leaked information about Kingdom Hearts III released lately, but I’m a good boy and won’t tell you anything about that. Mostly because I have done everything in my power to avoid the spoilers for myself. For those of you like me the latest trailer for the game may offer some relief if you’re dying for a taste of what’s to come.
The trailer kicks off with Sora giving some inspirational words saying “if it’s your fate, then every step forward will always be a step closer to home.” It is immediately followed by some pretty massive destruction of the worlds from Hercules, Monster Inc., and Toy Story. We also get reunited in a lighthearted fashion with some old friends like Tigger and Scrooge McDuck, and introduced to characters from Ratatouille and Frozen. It is barely one minute into the trailer at this point, but already we’re given a sense of what kind of emotional roller coaster this game is going to be.
It then starts showcasing some combat gameplay from various worlds, with Sora’s keyblade turning into a giant frying pan from Ratatouille’s world at one point. Battles from many different worlds are displayed, and there is even a fun looking dance number set in Tangled. Kairi, Axel/Lea, and even Roxas make brief appearances that may have made me squeal a bit in delight.
It does not stay jovial for long though, with Organization XIII ripping their way through the heroes with what appears to be little to no effort, leaving Sora screaming in anguish making us wonder if somebody close to him met their end. We even get a little sneak peak of big bad Xehanort showing up right at the end. From everything shown thus far, this game is certainly shaping up to take us all on an emotional journey and give us the conclusion that has eluded us all for years.
Kingdom Hearts III releases on January 29th, 2019 on Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
