Sony has finally revealed the controller that we will be using to play the PlayStation 5 when it launches later this year. The controller titled the ‘DuelSense‘ is a vast improvement from the traditional DuelShock pad and it sports a number of improvements that are all designed in making the controller feel more ‘immersive’.
Amongst these new features is a built-in microphone that will allow voice communication with out a headset, a ‘Create’ button that replaces the PlayStation 4’s Share button. The final big change is that the DuelSense will feature adaptive triggers with haptic feedback replacing the Duelshocks rumble function.
In addition to these changes, Sony stated on their blog page that the Lightbar on the controllers top has been replaced with an LED that surrounds the Touchpad to give the controller a slightly larger look, and feel. The DuelSense will also retain it’s own built-in battery that will be able to be recharged via a USB C connection that is placed on the top of the controller.
The DuelSense will also come in a two-tone design that gives it a very futuristic look, this new look could also be an indication that the Console itself could also feature a two-tone design. Alas we will have to wait and see for that one.
The PlayStation Blog post also ends with quote from Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO, Jim Ryan that confirms the company’s goal of a ‘Holiday 2020’ launch is still in the cards. Here is a brief snippet of what Jim Ryan had to say:
“DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5.
“The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future.
“To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.”
With the on-going troubles with COVID-19 still sweeping across the world, it’s a massive plus that Sony is still committed to delivering its PlayStation 5 console to gamers this year. Currently there has been no price set on how much the console will cost, but we expect this will come along with the full console reveal within the coming months.
