One of Twitch’s top streamers has become the next in line to jump ship. In an announcement on Twitter earlier today Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek has announced he will be moving to Mixer, following in the footsteps of Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.
The tweet simply stated, “Same Shroud. New Home”, but was accompanied by a short trailer to showcase the move. The video starts off with an over-the-top intensity that has a level of bravado one would expect from these kind of announcements, and then quickly makes light of itself by flicking the lights on and bringing in a kitty. Watch it. You’ll see.
Back in August Blevins made a similar announcement, and had many people thinking Twitch would immediately have an equal competitor in Mixer. And while Mixer is certainly making a gradual growth, Ninja joining the platform didn’t show a boost in viewers the way people thought it might. According to a StreamElements report this month Mixer Q3 viewership has more than doubled from 2018 to 2019, but as a result of gradual month over month growth and not because of new talent.
That being said the move undoubtedly increased global awareness of the platform, which has value to any company. While the viewership hasn’t drastically changed, loads of streamers have switched teams. If more big names like Shroud (who still holds the record for most viewed hours per month in 2019 with 15 million hours watched in February) start to make the move then perhaps Mixer’s growth rate will make a larger leap.

While I’m not exactly holding my breath to see if Mixer makes an immediate jump, Shroud is already sitting at over 100000 followers (at the time of writing this) and has over 19000 people watching the countdown to when his first Mixer stream is. The countdown. Think about that for a second.
There is also a free subscription for you to claim that expires on November 11th, so if your interested head on over to Shroud’s Mixer and get it fast. Who knows, maybe you’ll get hooked on the platform and help add to their viewership. At the very least we can likely expect a few more shake-ups by Mixer before the year is done.
