During the Nintendo Direct at E3 2021, a brand new Metroid game was announced titled Metroid Dread! It was a definite highlight of the show, exciting long-time fans of the franchise! Samus Aran has never looked so good!
The trailer highlights a tense confrontation between Samus and a dangerous new threat. The Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifiers (E.M.M.I) is a highly agile and lethal robot that stops at nothing to hunt Samus down!
Transitioning to the return side-scrolling gameplay, Samus does what she can to escape, eventually getting cornered and killed by the E.M.M.I. The footage cuts to the title, Metroid Dread, signifying a new era of Metroid focusing more on terror!
Afterwards, more platform gameplay is shown off, looking distinctively like classic Metroid! There are new horrific threats, new abilities, and, of course, a much deeper & exciting combat system than ever before! Thankfully, it won’t be long until we see more in-depth gameplay!
