A new trailer for Metroid Prime: Federation Force was uploaded to Nintendo Japan’s YouTube channel which showcases the game’s mechanics and displays what we can expect from the gameplay.
It shows off the game’s campaign, which appears to be 4 player co-op (a series first), where each player takes control of a Galactic Federation soldier, each of which possesses the standard Metroid combat mechanics (shooting, locking on to enemies, and using missiles). A new feature however, showcases microchips, which can be found both scattered throughout the levels and unlocked through solving puzzles. The microchips act as ammo for some weapons, in addition to buffing your stats, such as health and defense.

Additionally, Nintendo’s Twitter account revealed that Federation Force will be compatible with amiibo.
Predictably, the Samus and Zero Suit Samus amiibo work with the game by unlocking certain upgrades; although we’re not sure if this refers to the campaign or otherwise. More surprisingly though, other amiibo, like Mario and Bowser, will also work in the game, providing Blast Ball players a new paint job for their mechs. There was no mention of any other amiibo compatibility.
