The creator’s of the Xbox One S and Xbox One X are introducing a new way to play with their newly announced Xbox Adaptive Controller.
The controller was developed to make gaming accessible to everyone, even those with disabilities. Users who have difficulty using their hands on a traditional Xbox One controller can opt-in to unlock other ways to enjoy their favorite games.
The device is said to work with a wide range of products that gamers already own, with new devices in development by first and third parties. One such device is PDP’s one handed joystick specifically designed for the Xbox Adaptive Controller.
“It was developed in partnership with organizations around the world, including The AbleGamers Charity, The Cerebral Palsy Foundation, Craig Hospital, SpecialEffect, and Warfighter Engaged. We worked closely with them and directly with gamers who have limited mobility to assist in our development.” Microsoft said in a blog post. “Our goal was to make the device as adaptable as possible, so gamers can create a setup that works for them in a way that is plug-and-play, extensible, and affordable. In addition to working with common adaptive switches that gamers with limited mobility may already own, it has two large buttons built in. These buttons can also be reprogrammed to act as any of the standard controller’s button inputs via the Xbox Accessories app.”
Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive Controller is expected to launch later this year for $99.99 USD, with more information about the device being announced at E3. For E3 news, stay tuned to Informed Pixel for the latest in gaming and tech news.
