Nintendo and Microsoft partnered up to deliver a new trailer for Minecraft, showing off its Cross-Platform capabilities.
The game was released for the Nintendo Switch recently, with the support for cross-platform play. The catch? Only those with a copy of the game for Xbox One, Windows 10, Mobile, or Nintendo Switch can play together. This means that Playstation 4 gamers are isolated to their platform, and Microsoft knows it. Both Microsoft and Nintendo promoted a trailer earlier today, showcasing Minecraft’s cross-platform capabilities. Take a look at the trailer for yourselves.
The drama started with the release of Fortnite for the Nintendo Switch. Upon downloading the game, gamers who have linked their Epic Games account to their Playstation 4 found that they were not allowed to use the same profile on the Nintendo Switch. This created hostility towards Sony regarding their policies for cross-platform play, with the company providing a weak statement.
“We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices,” A Sony spokesperson told BBC. “expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms. We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point.”
Nintendo of America engaged in conversation with Microsoft’s Xbox account on Twitter, inviting the two to build something together in Minecraft. This is obvious shade thrown at Sony’s Playstation, as they aren’t invited to participate in the group discussion. What are your comments on the cross-platform drama?
