The Monster Hunter digital event earlier this week revealed a new trailer for the upcoming Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Also shown was the content to be found in the first free title update for Monster Hunter Rise.
In the trailer, players can see what to expect of the epic narrative in Capcom’s upcoming Monster Hunter title. In the game, you’ll play as a young Monster Rider, using a Kinship Stone to form strong bonds with monsters.
It was revealed that players will encounter two returning characters from the original Monster Hunter Stories, Lilia and Reverto. Also shown was a brief overview of the overhauled strategic turn-based combat.
In the narrative, Lilia and Reverto are on a mission to capture your companion Razewing Ratha, before it can awaken its dormant but destructive power foreseen in the prophecy of the Wings of Ruin. However, they are followed by a group of Hunters and Riders out to get the Razewing Ratha for themselves, and their own purposes.
The player’s journey will see them come to decide whether to save their friend, or the world. More details on how these returning characters fit into the overall narrative alongside the previously revealed cast are promised to follow soon.
The Monster Hunter digital event also announced a free title update for Monster Hunter Rise. The new update is available now, and introduces a host of new monsters, new gear to craft, the ability to forge layered armour, and an unlocked hunter rank cap.
The arrival of Elder Dragons Kushala Daora, Teostra, and Chameleos, are accompanied by the Apex Diablos and Apex Rathalos, all of which players can now fight in the game. In addition, previously released Apex monsters can now be challenged outside of Rampage quests, and Magnamalo will join the Rampage quest rotation.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin releases on both Nintendo Switch and PC on July 9th, 2021. Pre-orders are open now, and offer the Kamura Maiden Outfit for Ena as a bonus.
The new Monster Hunter Rise update is free and available to all players now on Nintendo Switch. The second free title update will release in May, and include more monsters as well as a new story ending the current conclusion of the game.
