I have to admit I find this to be strange. People are having trouble trying to buy an Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft is already releasing more colours for controllers. It seems slightly near-sighted, unless people want a new controller for an older console. Despite that, Microsoft revealed a new controller colour.
Are there any differences to those already released, other than the “Pulse Red” colour? Nope. You can also buy the controller in Black, White, and Shock Blue; while there are no inherent differences between the 4 of them, they have evolved from the Xbox One controllers a little bit.
There is a hybrid D-Pad and textured grip on the back, along with a “Share” button. Like its brethren, the Pulse Red controller will work with Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows 10 PC, and mobile devices that support it.
The controller’s main feature is the bright red colour (I’m noticing a pattern with these non-traditional shades), with a white back and a matte black D-Pad, triggers, and bumpers. Those who purchase the controller will receive a 14-day free trial for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
The controller will cost $64.99, and the buttons retain their fully-remappable quality. It’s also compatible with Bluetooth on Windows 10 PC’s and Android devices.
The only question for their controllers is: where do they go next? Microsoft is already looking at the competition to see what they might add. In fact, Microsoft just released a survey last week to ask if Xbox players want any of Sony’s DualSense 5 features to be incorporated into their own controllers.
New features like Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback; they already adopted the “Share” button, so more tweaks may be incoming. Players will have to wait and see what the results are. You’ll be able to get the new colour for your Xbox controller on February 9th, 2021. Visit the Xbox page for more details and the Xbox Wire article for the full breakdown.
