One of the most anticipated games of the year, No Man’s Sky has been delayed until August 2016 (August 9th in North America, August 10th in Europe, and August 12th in the UK).
Sean Murray (the lead director of the project) clarified through the official Playstation blog in order to ensure everybody was on the same page.  Murray says that himself and Hello Games decided to put more development into the game in order to polish out any rough edges with promises of  giving players the most complete experience that they could possibly provide.
Sean Murray states “However, as we approached our final deadlines, we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special.” Â He also ensures that this delay is short and that excitement at headquarters is high.
Understanding that this news is disappointing, Murray can be quoted as saying “Making this game is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but we are so close now, and we’re prepared to make the tough choices to get it right.  The universe of No Man’s Sky is incredibly vast. More than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.”  From this we can tell that so much effort and energy is going into the game and that regardless of the wait the game will be vast and enjoyable.
