Ah Oddworld, why must you bring me so much nostalgia. Developer ‘Oddworld Inhabitants’ have announced that the strategy action adventure ‘Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD’ will release for the Nintendo Switch on January 23rd on the Nintendo eShop. Limited Run Games previously handled the physical launch for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita but no information has been announced thus far.
The release of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD adds to the list of consoles that have featured the title over its lifetime. Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath originally released back in January 2005 for the original Xbox. After a 5 year span, it would later find its way to PC in 2010, PlayStation 3 in 2011, PS Vita in 2012, and then finally it made its way to iOS and Android in 2014.
Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath originally released to fantastic reviews from gamers and critics alike, scoring a well deserved 88 out of 100 on Metacritic. It went on to be nominated for and win several awards from established publications as well as reviving praise for its animation, innovation and graphics.
If you’re unfamiliar with the story of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, it places you in the role of the Stranger. The Stranger is a mysterious bounty hunter who sets off for the ultimate prize. This prize is more than just a desire, it’s a need. You suffer from something terrible around your health, and the only way to heal yourself is a very expensive operation. At first, your disease will remain a secret, but more information will gradually reveal itself as you progress through the story.
