UPDATE July 6th, 2016 at 3:12PM: According to multiple sources online, there is no information regarding a release date for North America or Japan. We have reached out to Nintendo for further clarification.
Niantic Labs’ Pokemon GO is now available for mobile devices in Austrailia and New Zealand.
Pokemon GO has already been released on the iOS App Store and Google Play Store without any official announcement from Nintendo, The Pokemon Company or Niantic Labs. Unfortunately, the game is only available for residents of New Zealand and Austrailia at this time.
According to Takashi Mochizuki of the Wall Street Journal, The Pokemon Company is urging fans from the United States, Canada, and Japan to “Please wait a while” until the game is released onto the respective marketplaces. We have been hearing numerous reports that the game will be released in Japan and North America within the next 24 hours.
Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned during the Nintendo Treehouse event at E3 that Pokemon GO and its accessory, the Pokemon GO Plus Device would be released sometime in July. Those wishing to pre-order the Pokemon GO Plus Device ahead of the game’s launch can purchase it for $34.99 USD/$44.99 CDN.
Pokemon GO is available for a selection of iOS and Android devices.
