So, Ubisoft officially announced Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is the real thing and will be heading to multiple platforms in 2021. Developed by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, we learned of the game’s official existence from the Ubisoft Forward event.
If the franchise sounds familiar, well, it’s probably because it should. Originally released in 2003, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time developed a huge following! The new game will be the ‘first ever full-scale remake’ and has been developed from the ground up for a modern audience.
Using the Anvil game engine, the game has a fresh approach to combat and puzzle solving. And, let’s not forget the ability to rewind time! In addition, to add to the new lick of paint, we will see new camera angles and fully remade sequences as part of the new design.
So, what’s the story with this Prince?
Fans of the original will already be familiar with this tale. Newcomers, however, please read on to see what is happening within the adventure. After unwittingly releasing the Sands of Time on the Sultan’s Kingdom, we essentially witness a journey of a prince’s redemption. Evading traps with the art of parkour and fighting his way through the palace, the Prince must confront the evil Vizier. By the way, it’s Vizier that controls the Sands of Time!
Yuri Lowenthal reprises his voice acting and motion capture for the Prince. However, introducing Supinder Wraich to the voice acting team, we see a new Princess Farah this time around.
More than just a remake
Long time fans will be pleased that the original Prince of Persia game from 1989 is included with this new version. Simply unlock the game during the Prince’s adventure in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Pre-ordering the game also gives you access to the ‘Back to the Origins’ set. This includes: The Original Prince outfit from Prince and Persia: The Sands of Time, the Prince’s Original Weapons set, and a Classic Filter (to visually change the look and feel).
For this game to shine, is there enough… time?
There has been some backlash from fans that feel the aesthetics of the game doesn’t reflect today’s expectations. Also, with the game coming from the powerhouse behind the Assassin’s Creed franchise, we anticipate some improvements before release.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake is scheduled for release on January 21st, 2021 at $49.99. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store on Windows PC and UPLAY+ (Ubisoft’s subscription service). Via back compatibility the game will also be playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will be available for pre-order here.
