Recently Ubisoft dropped the first full cinematic trailer for Rainbow Six Extraction at its E3 presentation. Rainbow Six Extraction is a standalone follow up to its famous timed Siege mode outbreak, where players faced off against waves of enemies infected with an alien virus.
The trailer gives us a picture of the setting, tone and gameplay of the upcoming shooter. It appears to be a blending of the franchise’s tactical roots with a horde shooter co-op experience.
Skilled Extraction
The trailer focuses on establishing the cause of the games alien invasion; showing a meteor falling to earth, as the worlds military try and fail to contain the threat of the humans turned monsters known as Archaeans. Focus then shifts to showing the game operators at a base of operations preparing for a rescue mission; heading directly into enemy territory.
It is here that we see how the game’s “Incursions” will work with a team of up to 3 operators going into infested areas to complete various objectives; this is where the games obvious influences shine with the Archaeans coming in multiple forms similar to that of Left 4 Dead‘s special infected.
What follows is cinematic showcases of the various operator skills and how they complement each other; it highlights the tension of each match, with teamwork being key to survival.
Finally, the trailer ends with a successful extraction; and a look at some of the operator’s players will have available to them. Ubisoft has made it clear that their vision with Extraction is to be an experience true to the Rainbow Six legacy!
“We took the strong foundations of Rainbow Six Siege and crafted a modern tactical co-op shooter where you will be facing an always evolving alien threat”
– Patrik Methé, Creative director
It looks to be a more challenging and tactical take on the tried and true co-op formula with it being pushed as a Rainbow Six game made for players who prefer PVE to PVP. With many co-op shooters releasing Ubisoft is looking to stand out with its more hardcore offering.
Rainbow Six Extraction is releasing on September 16th 2021 and will be available on PlayStation 4|5 & Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, it’ll be available on Stadia and Microsoft windows, it will also be fully cross-play across all consoles and PC.
