Nintendo may be preparing to release a miniature Super Nintendo Entertainment System this holiday season.
Sources close to Eurogamer have mentioned that Nintendo is planning to release the mini-SNES in December 2017, with development already underway. This could be the reason that the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition was discontinued so early, so the company can focus on developing newer products.
There is a handful of high-quality Super Nintendo games that could be included in the system, with games like Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past being the first that come to mind.
One concern that many gamers will have is whether or not the mini-SNES can meet the demand of the consumers, something that the NES Classic Edition and the Nintendo Switch have struggled with over the last couple of months. Hopefully, Nintendo won’t run into the same issue with future consoles.
The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition was one of the hottest holiday items last year, selling more than a couple million units (and counting), there are people still wanting to get their hands on the system. With this in mind, Nintendo has ceased the production of the miniature NES console, with a large audience still left out of the initial experience.
