The Resident Evil 2 Remake is the first big game to be released in 2019 (not to mention one of the more highly-anticipated of the year), and the reviews have been shambling around in the light for mere hours, but already Capcom is baiting the hordes with a promise of post-launch DLC. And if there is one thing that the mass of gnashing teeth and rending fingers love to have, it’s fresh and warm content to rip into; by the sounds of it, the Resident Evil 2 Remake will be offering some free dessert to those who find the main course hasn’t left them satisfied.
The first announcement is a mode titled “Ghost Survivors” and will be launched across 3 volumes (what, exactly, is meant by “volume” is unknown, but I would bet my entrails on it being synonymous with “episodes”). The 1st volume will star the mayor’s daughter Katherine and a USS member named Robert Kendo, and is supposed to include a new enemy type not found in the main game. This mode will include random elements to keep players on their toes and a shop in which they can buy upgrades which are attached to performance–play well, get points, essentially. As for the 2nd and 3rd volumes, there has been no announcement yet, but rumors abound that each volume will appear with its own pair of characters. Capcom is hoping to make this mode as replayable as possible, though there is no mention of whether multiplayer will be included.
The other Resident Evil 2 Remake DLC, while not as intriguing, should have fans of the Playstation classic, particularly those that like the retro aesthetic, frothing at the mouth. Capcom announced a release titled “Classic ’98”, and will revert Leon Kennedy and/or Claire Redfield back to their polygonal models. Initially, it will be released only in Japan, but should be swarming over the rest of the world on March 22nd. There is not yet a price attached.
It looks like Capcom has given into the ravenous appetites of the Resident Evil fan-base and have decided to throw them some fresh meat as a means of appreciation. Let’s just hope they aren’t doing so as a means to distract us while they make their escape.
