Well, I don’t think anybody can really say they didn’t see this coming. With the success Capcom has been creating the last couple of years with Resident Evil, arguably Capcom’s most popular series, people seem poised for more Resident Evil. Resident Evil 7 was a return (mostly) to Resident Evil‘s survival-horror roots, albeit with a fresh 1st-person angle. The remake of Resident Evil 2 doubled-down on that promise, creating an even more intimidating version of Mr. X that could follow you from room to room. This, among many quality-of-life improvements to things such as controls, dialogue and lighting/splatter/gore effects, produced a harrowing, almost-new version.
With those two strong outings, it proved the masses are still ravenous for video-games’ front-shambling zombie series. And, not surprisingly, leaks discovered by Gamstat have indicated that Capcom is hard at work on the remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Pictures have leaked on the Playstation Store, and appear to show cover art for both the American and Japanese versions of the game (titled Biohazard). Additionally, though there is no info on the the differences, there will be a normal version and a “Z” version, but whether this is only in Japan isn’t stated. If the cover art is real, it has a very similar art direction as the Resident Evil 2 Remake.
The upper half is filled with the ominous Nemesis, who has been given a face-lift (he has a nose!) and some elongated teeth, not to mention the snake-like purple vein or whatever he had weaving in and out of his shoulders appears to now be a type of hose. As for the lower half of the box, that is taken up by the new iterations of Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira, the main protagonists from the original Resident Evil 3. They have also been given a radical update, much like Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil 2. Behind them the city reaches along the breadth of the cover, and appears to be at dawn or dusk.
If that isn’t enough to get you excited for Resident Evil, there is also the newly-announced Resident Evil Resistance; a new asymmetrical multiplayer game that focuses on the usual team of players facing off against another player (called the Mastermind) in control of the infected, and tasks the group with trying to escape within a time limit. It’s another departure for the series, but it has more potential than some of Capcom’s former attempts at RE spin-offs.
