Shin Megami Tensei 5 has finally been given a teaser trailer, and Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne is getting a remastered edition, with both being announced for the Nintendo Switch.
Yes, you read that correctly, Shin Megami Tensei 5 has been given another release date and this time, it’s for real, but that’s not all. The wildly loved JRPG classic Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne is getting a HD remastered all for next year.
If you are not familiar with the Shin Megami Tensei games, they are basically the original Persona games. The Persona series started off as a Shin Megami Tensei spin off and is created by the exact team at Atlus, so get ready to see a large amount of similarities between the two series. Unfortunately we do not know anything about the story of Shin Megami Tensei 5, so let’s have a very quick rundown of Nocturne’s story.
You play as the Protagonist who arrives to Tokyo to meet his friends. Whilst in Tokyo he fuses with a Demon to lead the demon’s armies against the Great Will, and so he becomes a Demi-fiend. This Demi-fiend is a being with the powers of a demon but with the heart of a human.
Llet’s breakdown the trailers we have been given, starting with Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster. We start off by getting told that Nocturne was released in 2003 and became a cult classic as we see some gameplay footage of the original PlayStation 2 game, before seeing the remastered gameplay footage.
We also get to see the world map, as you move to different districts of Tokyo. In addition we also do get confirmation that there will be both English and Japanese voice-overs for you to choose from.
Now that we have covered Nocturne let’s go over Shin Megami Tensei 5’s trailer. We start the trailer off with a massive army of demons surrounding a tower, as the demon Lucifer himself says “The God you worship is dead.”
We then cut to a busy Shinagawa Station, as we are introduced to the possible Protagonist. Suddenly finding herself in a sand covered city in another world, she is almost killed by demons before an armoured figure saves her. This figure offers her power to fight demons, which leaves us at the end of the trailer.
This is an exciting time for JRPG fans and we at Informed Pixel cannot wait to play an important series. Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remaster will be released in Japan in late 2020 but it will get a western release in spring of 2021, the exact date is currently unknown. Shin Megami Tensei 5 will be released world wide at the same time in 2021, again exact date unknown.
