If you love onomatopoeia as much as I do then every time I mention Shing! today you’re going to make a sword sound as often as I do. But enough about mouth sounds, ON TO THE IMPORTANT BITS! If you like beat-em-ups, then you might have your eye on Mass Creation‘s upcoming game Shing! whose new gameplay trailer showcases the unique combat style. Take a look-see.
The key selling point of the Shing! gameplay trailer is the input for attacks. Melee attacks are implemented by using the right thumbstick of your controller. None of your grand-pappy’s A and B video games. Shing! focuses on fluidity of combat. From the trailer I have to say the combat definitely looks smooth, though I can’t quite tell yet if this gives more or less diversity to the move set. There are angled attacks, aerial maneuvers, and even counters to be used.
Your team consists of four characters, all accessible via the d-pad to swap at any time. Switch players during safe times, or in the middle of a combo to extend the attack streak. Each character has different attributes, and players can use power-ups or revive allies as necessary. The trailer also emphasizes bringing defense to the offense-heavy genre. Guard attacks at your own peril, as after a certain amount of attacks your guard breaks. If you guard at the perfect moment you parry the enemy attack and unleash a powerful counter strike.
The visuals in the game take inspiration from anime, in case that was hard to tell. Throughout the game are lore rooms where you can learn more about the world of Shing!, or your companions, because exposition! These doors could also take you into challenge rooms to test your skills and prepare you for the boss battles ahead. The game is planned for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC later this summer.
So, you want to play a nifty arcade action game? Or do you wish to support indie developers? Both? Cool! Shing! releases late summer 2020 for Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
