Most should remember Sonic Colors back on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS, as it stood-out amongst the many games that the system was known for. From an enjoyable High-Speed adventure along with a favourable reception from both fans and critics, the game was an another iconic mark in the long history of the Blue Blur.
SEGA has partnered with Blind Squirrel Games to deliver a remastered version called Sonic Colors: Ultimate for current platforms, which includes the base game and some additional content. This version launched on September 7th, 2021, along with a Launch Trailer to celebrate the release.
The story of this game is fairly simple: Doctor Eggman has created an interstellar amusement park that is being powered by an innocent alien race called the Wisps.
Sonic’s objective is to free the Wisps and, with their help, use their unique powers to topple Eggman’s scheme. The game has six worlds to overcome, and this isn’t including the additions that are brought into the Ultimate version.
This new version brings enhanced visuals and graphics, allowing up to 4K graphics on consoles that support it. Improvements have also been made to the game’s controls, which make traversal easier.
There’s also a new type of Wisp brought into the game called Jade Wisp, which allows the player to find new paths, phase through walls and use Ghost Anchors. Another new addition is a new mode called Rival Rush, which will allow you to go toe-to-toe with Metal Sonic and be put to task of outrunning him to achieve unlockables.
For those who are looking to buy the game, it is currently priced at $39.99 and is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and the Epic Games Store.
It is bundled with a Baby Sonic Keychain and downloadable Icon Pack, and for those willing to spend a little extra, you’ll be able to get the Digital Deluxe Edition that comes with the Icon Pack, a Music Pack, Metallic Pack, and a couple of other goodies.
