Today marks a win for the consumer as Sony announced their plans to unlock cross-platform capabilities for the Playstation 4.
The first game to support this feature is Epic Games’ Fortnite, with more third-party titles planned to roll out in the future. Now, gamers can connect and play with each other, regardless of the platform they choose.
“For 24 years, we have strived to deliver the best gaming experience to our fans by providing a uniquely PlayStation perspective.” Said John Kodera, President and CEO of Sony Interaction Entertainment. ” Today, the communities around some games have evolved to the point where cross-platform experiences add significant value to players. In recognition of this, we have completed a thorough analysis of the business mechanics required to ensure that the PlayStation experience for our users remains intact today, and in the future, as we look to open up the platform.”
The cross-platform feature with other platforms is currently in open beta to allow Sony to “conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.”
I’m sure it is safe to say, regardless what platform you choose to play on, you are happy with the news. Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments below!
