Exclusivity doesn’t mean what it used to mean when it comes to games. A couple of years ago, it meant the game is only available on a certain platform. Then “timed” exclusivity reared its ugly head and created a bastardized version of the practice.
The new consoles appeared to be no different– Sony showed off a handful of games with the claims of being “timed exclusives.” No more was said, and people were left a little confused when looking into it. When you factor in the fact that Microsoft bought Bethesda, it gets even more complicated.
Fortunately, Sony has recently revealed the timed exclusivity for some games. Sharing a video on the PlayStation YouTube channel, they showed off a few of the upcoming titles.
First, lets start with Project Athia by Square Enix. According to the video, the game will be exclusive for “at least 24 months after release date”. However, this does not include PC, so the game will be arriving there alongside the PlayStation 5 version.
Then there are the two Bethesda games: Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo. Deathloop will remain exclusive to the PlayStation 5 (and PC) for one year. Ghostwire: Tokyo is in the same vein as Deathloop and will also remain an exclusive for one year, and again will coincide with a PC release; unless Microsoft changes their minds on these two.
Temtem, a new Pokemon-like game by Crema, will be entering Early Access this week on PlayStation 5 as a timed exclusive, alongside PC. Then Godfall, already out on the PlayStation 5 and PC, will most likely be on Xbox Series X/S in May 2021, as the deal ends then.
Finally, it looks as if Gran Turismo is being kept as a real exclusive; it won’t even appear on the PlayStation 4! So if you don’t own a PlayStation 5 or PC, Sony has revealed the timed exclusivity for some games.
