With both a Nintendo Direct and a State of Play happening within a week of each other, I thought there’d be more news. Unfortunately, while Nintendo had a couple of interesting things to show, Sony’s State of Play didn’t have much new news to show.
The first and probably biggest news has to do with the Final Fantasy VII Remake. While most people probably expected it to come to the PlayStation 5 (called Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade and with a free upgrade, no less), there is an additional bounty. A new story DLC will be available to purchase the same day as the upgrade– June 10th, 2021.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will also be available on PlayStation 5 on March 12th, 2021. The upgrade from PlayStation 4 will be free and will feature all the DualSense controller improvements.
A handful of games will head to both PlayStation consoles. Kena: Bridge of Spirits will release on August 24th, 2021. This will also be the case with Oddworld: Soulstorm (April 6th, 2021), Solar Ash (2021) and Sifu.
Out of the entire presentation, Sifu is what most piqued my interest. It looks like a Kung-Fu game, with the added twist of the character aging and gaining ability with each death.
Sony also revealed more of Returnal, which basically looks like a 3rd-person action/shooter roguelike. It’s an interesting combination for sure, but whether the mixture is potent will remain to be seen. It’s got the neon colours of Housemarque‘s previous work, but is going for a much darker ambience.
To finish it off, Sony showed a little more Deathloop‘s world and personality with a James Bond-style song. Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach was spotted, and looks to take after Outlast. There was also an announcement of Knockout City releasing for PlayStation 4 on May 21st, 2021 for $19.99, and that will feature enhancements for PlayStation 5 players.
So while Sony’s State of Play didn’t have much new to show, there were some solid looks. As always, for more reviews and gaming news you can keep up to date at Informed Pixel.
